Traveller's Hope by Charles Granville
Traveller's Hope by Charles Granville
The mysterious poet and a modern printer
This short poem is printed on Zerkall paper with 14pt Bembo type in an edition of 150 copies. It is hand sewn into card, covered with original Curwen Press patterned paper by Elizabeth Friedlander. There is a single illustration, an anonymous wood engraving of a Thames barge dating from the late 19th century. Each copy comes in a handmade cartographic envelope.
This gift book was the first exercise carried out by Petra Wonham on her one month summer sojourn at Incline Press. (For more details see Burns’ Bonnie Garland book she followed this with.)
The poet, Charles Granville is something of a mystery, and we recommend you do your own research and come to your own conclusion about who this man was; the author of this poem, the publishing bigamist or someone else entirely? However, the poem stands on its own feet.
