We did it!

Happy New Year!

Our last email newsletter was an appeal to help us move Incline Press from Oldham, to Scotland. In just a fortnight, our amazing followers, friends and family, helped us meet the target we set ourselves to secure the building.

You did it.  We did it!  Thank you.

Just as we had hoped, most of the funds we raised have been from selling Incline Press books through our website, and we spent much of our Christmas posting out your orders and printing the ephemera gift pack to go to those who donated to our DIY fundraiser.  Along with our own savings, selling some books to dealers, some Stephenson, Blake type on Ebay, and a generous discount from the vendor on the price of the building, we have just enough to buy the property.

And we heard confirmation today that our offer has been accepted.  Hooray!

So we will be moving to the very beautiful Creetown in Dumfries and Galloway, not far from Wigtown which is Scotland's official book town, and we are very excited for the opportunity to become 'new Scot's' and bring our business to the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright.

It will probably take 8 weeks for the sale to go through, and there are a few major repairs that need to be done before we can move the workshop gear to Scotland.  Primarily, some of the floors will need to be strengthened and the pre-war electrics replaced.  Two rooms need to be knocked through and have a supporting beam fitted so we can get the presses into the building.  Then we can start the weighty task of transporting the gear with the help of specialist removers.  Trivialities such as the living accommodation, will have to wait a while and we are reconciled to having to camp out in the building until it can all be done.

Currently, we do not have any money to do this work, so we hope again you might forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in buying our books, or taking a look at the crowdfunder page.

Our building in Bow Street is up for sale, which will fund the later stage of development including replacing an ancient extension roof, creating a kitchen and replacing some windows.  Bow Street building has been kept in good repair over the 20 years it has been home to Incline Press.  If you know of anyone that would like to buy this excellent mixed use property, please let them know!

And of course meanwhile, we keep printing:

Oxford Book Fair

We will be at the popular and international Oxford Book Fair on the 3rd and 4th of May, with our own publications and some of Graham's own fine press library books.  We look forward to seeing some of you there.

Podcast

Last autumn, Arthur Attwell in South Africa, recorded a podcast interview with Graham for his programme How Books Are Made.  This lively 40 minute chat is rather ambitiously titled 'The Fine Press Printer's Art of Not Forgetting'.  Unfortunately, we have only just remembered to share the link, which is here.
